The Engineering of Dreams:

A Grandson’s Love: The Birth of Innovation

At just 16 years old, Abhishek Kushwaha watched helplessly as his 62-year-old grandfather struggled with the limitations brought on by paralysis. Every time his grandfather needed to move, Abhishek would hand him a walking stick and guide him by holding a torch ahead. But the moments when Abhishek wasn’t around filled him with a sense of helplessness. His grandfather’s suffering became a constant weight on his heart.
Driven by his love and a desire to ease his grandfather’s pain, Abhishek channeled his frustration into a solution. He invented a special walking stick, one that could help his grandfather walk independently, even in the dark. This wasn’t just any stick—it was equipped with eight digital features that transformed his grandfather’s life. Today, the Indian government has recognized Abhishek’s innovation by awarding him a patent for his creation.

A Visionary from the Start: Abhishek’s Ingenious Journey

This is the story of Abhishek Kushwaha, the founder of Abonics India Private Limited, hailing from Ramkaran Patti village in Kushinagar. Now 23, Abhishek has always had an innate talent for engineering. From a young age, he would look for innovative solutions to any problem he encountered.
In 2017, when his grandfather Dhruv Kushwaha was struck by paralysis, his mobility was severely impacted. His eyesight also deteriorated. Abhishek became his constant companion, the literal “stick” supporting him through old age. Observing his grandfather’s difficulties, Abhishek designed a digital stick that allowed his grandfather to walk unassisted, even at night. The stick not only helped with mobility but also provided entertainment, proving to be a life-changing invention.

Gaining Momentum: The Business Takes Off

Abhishek recalls how, despite having the idea for the product, he faced challenges in bringing it to the market and raising funds. That’s when he came across the vision and mission of Jagriti’s founder, Shashank Mani, which deeply inspired him. In September 2023, Abhishek became a part of Jagriti, which supported him at every step of his entrepreneurial journey.
In a few months, Jagriti helped him secure financial assistance of one lakh rupees. Through Jagriti’s guidance, his company, Abonics India Private Limited, has now made market connections in over 30 locations. Along with his college classmate and co-founder, Mohammad Kaif, Abhishek is now working to build science and engineering labs in ITIs, polytechnics, and other colleges. Jagriti is also helping Abhishek set up a factory for manufacturing his digital sticks.

The Features That Set the Digital Stick Apart

Abhishek’s innovative digital stick is more than just a walking aid—it’s a multi-functional tool designed with care and precision. These are the key features that make it stand out:
• An emergency light
• A power bank for the light
• A watch system for checking time
• An SD card music system for entertainment
• A present indication light for better visibility
• A bell system for road safety
• A charging system for the battery
With these features, Abhishek’s digital stick ensures both safety and convenience for the elderly, providing not just mobility but also comfort and peace of mind.

A Journey of Recognition: Awards and Achievements

At the young age of 23, Abhishek has left an indelible mark on national and international stages. His projects, ranging from water conservation to the digital stick, have earned him top positions in science exhibitions. He has been honored more than two dozen times, with accolades including:
• The Bharat Gaurav Samman
• The Kishore Vaigyanik Samman
• The National Child Scientist Award
• The 105th Indian Science Congress Award
• The National Education Society Award

The Power of a Patent

A patent is a powerful tool that grants an individual or organization the exclusive right to produce or design a product. It prevents others from copying or manufacturing the invention without permission. In Abhishek’s case, his patent means that no one else can legally create or sell a similar product without his consent. If someone does, they face legal action. Anyone who wishes to produce the digital stick will need to seek Abhishek’s approval and pay royalties, ensuring that his hard work and innovation are protected.
His journey reminds us that innovation is born from empathy, and with persistence, even the most personal problems can lead to global solutions. With the continued support of Jagriti, Abhishek’s vision is gaining momentum, ensuring that more innovations like his digital stick reach those who need them the most.
